Reid Taylor Weeks, Sr., 31, is facing new charges after temporarily escaping from custody on Wednesday, Dec. 14, and attempting to hide from investigators from the jail as he faces kidnapping and other charges, authorities announced.
At approximately 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, deputies from the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office were alerted about an escape from the detention center on Jennifer Road in Annapolis, where the inmate - later identified as Weeks - was running in the direction of the Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Less than a half hour later, at approximately 2:39 p.m. deputies along with Anne Arundel Police, detention officers, and hospital staff located a suspect hiding underneath a blanket inside a vehicle in the parking garage at the hospital, though the driver was unaware there was anyone else inside his car, according to investigators.
The initial investigation determined that Reid “worked his way through multiple layers of razor wire while in the yard area of the detention center. (He) then jumped off the building and proceeded across Jennifer Road toward the hospital.
He had been detained since July after allegedly threatening his mother with a hammer and forcing her to withdraw cash from an ATM for him.
According to the sheriff’s office, the hospital was placed on a brief lockdown while law enforcement officials searched for Reid.
Reid is now charged with:
- Kidnapping;
- First-degree assault;
- Theft;
- Violation of probation for possession of a controlled dangerous substance;
- First-degree escape.
He is being held without bail pending his scheduled bail review on Thursday, Dec. 15.
